EU regulator warns bank chiefs over consolidation

One of the European Union's most senior banking supervisors has warned against interference in the consolidation of the continent's banking industry.

Jose Maria Roldan, the chairman of the Committee of European Banking Supervisors (CEBS), said central bankers should not attempt to block banking deals that made financial sense.

"We should not have a role in preventing mergers and acquisitions," he said in an interview with the Financial Times. "If some combination has a rationale, there is no way
