Estonia delays euro entry

The Bank of Estonia has said that Estonia would not meet EU criteria for eurozone accession in the years 2008-2009 and thus would not be able to adopt the common currency in 2010.

However, it urged the government to set a deadline for adoption of the euro: "It is in the best interests of Estonia to adopt the euro as soon as possible. Based on current estimations, the earliest possible term for the changeover is 2011", the central bank said in its quarterly economic statement.
