Poll thinks ECB unlikely to increase rates

A recent poll of economists by Reuters showed that there are strong expectations that the ECB will not raise interest rates until the first half of 2005, waiting for proof of a pickup in consumer demand which would protect against a global slowdown.

The Reuters poll of 63 economists showed them to be unanimous in expecting interest rates to remain unchanged at the ECB's September meeting.

While inflation is believed to be under control, the recovery remains fragile in the Eurozone, indicating that
