Japan must not be too late in hiking rates

The Bank of Japan needs to ensure that the pace of rate hikes in Japan is not too slow to risk the economy overheating, says Miyako Suda, a board member at the central bank.

Suda said the pace at which the central bank should adjust the policy interest rate, which at 0.5% is the lowest in any developed economy, is uncertain. But he added that "to prevent as much as possible the conduct of monetary policy from being behind the curve, the central bank should take measures at a relatively early
