Ten years down the line from the signing of the Maastricht Treaty, full European economic and monetary union is imminent. With the introduction of the euro notes and coin as of January 1, 2002, EMU will, in theory at least, be completed. But the practical and logistical nightmare of swapping 12 different currencies for a single new one may still catch the authorities
