Bank of England injects £4.4 billion extra

The Bank of England loaned £4.4 billion ($8.9 billion) more than the forecast reserves target on Thursday after promising to do so last week if overnight lending rates remained high.

The £4.4 billion represents 25% of the £17.6 billion aggregate reserves target - which represents the amount usually offered by the Bank in its weekly open market operation (OMO).

The Bank said: "The Bank announced on 5 September that it would consider offering additional reserves in the OMO today if secured
