BoE's Barker says uncertainty prevented rate rise

Bank of England Monetary Policy Committee member Kate Barker was reported as saying in an interview that the uncertain short-term outlook for the UK economy prevented the nine-member MPC from raising interest rates in February.

"The main reason why we didn't put rates up last time is uncertainty about short-term trends in the economy," she told the Irish News in an interview.

Barker also said the outlook for housing market remains uncertain but noted the risk of a renewed spurt of growth.
