Asia's reserves lower borrowing costs
Asian economies benefit from reduced spreads on their privately-held external debt because of their large holdings of foreign-exchange reserves, according to new research from the International Monetary Fund.
The authors find that reserves are not too high in the majority of Asian countries, apart from China, and that many countries would benefit from even higher reserves in terms of reduced borrowing costs.
