Greece presents special Olympic coin

Greece presented the first commemorative Olympics coin to be denominated in euros, aiming to raise funds for its overstretched Olympic budget. The coins were due to go on sale Thursday 13 May.

The coin has one normal side and depicts the discus-thrower, a renowned ancient Greek sculpture, on the other.

Fifty million of the two-euro coins will start being sold to the public on Thursday, said Nikos Garganas, governor of the Bank of Greece. Athens expects to raise E100 million from the proceeds.
