Buba's Weber: room for more monetary easing

Euro-area monetary policy has enough leeway for further easing if necessary, said Axel Weber, the president of the Bundesbank.

Weber said that this was due to a remarkable decline in inflationary pressure in the medium term and rapidly deteriorating economic prospects. However, he also said that the current easing of monetary policy also entailed a swift rise in rates to prevent new imbalances from emerging once the economy had shown signs of recovering.
