Globalisation forum kicks off

US - More than 3,000 of the world's movers and shakers are kicking off the World Economic Forum in the unaccustomed surroundings of bustling New York City.

The Forum is far from its traditional home in the Swiss skiing resort of Davos.

Officially, the decision was taken by the Forum's founder, Klaus Schwab, as a gesture of solidarity with New York following the 11 September attacks which destroyed the World Trade Center and killed more than 4,000 people.
