PBOC challenged on conflict in supervisory role

CHINA - A fierce debate is raging within the Chinese Government over whether to remove from the central bank its role as supervisor of the banks and set up a new organisation that would do a better job.

Such policy debates are usually conducted in secret but the Caijing magazine has provided a rare inside look at this battle for money and power that is intensifying with the country's World Trade Organisation entry and foreign banks moving into the market.
