Peru hikes for 4th-straight month, hints more to c

The Central Bank of Peru on Thursday raised its key rate for the seventh time in 12 months, warning that it would continue to use policy to tame inflation that is now more than triple the central bank's target.

The 25 basis-point rise, the fourth in as many months, takes the central bank's benchmark monetary-policy rate to 6.5%, its highest level since its 2003 introduction. Rates have now risen 200 basis points since July 2007.
