More work needed on deflation, says Tanigaki

Japan's Finance Minister Sadakazu Tanigaki told a press conference on Friday 7 January that more effort is needed to stop Japan's falling consumer prices and pledged to continue cooperating with the Bank of Japan to end deflation.

It's impossible to say whether deflation will end in the fiscal year starting 1 April, Tanigaki said at a regular press conference in Tokyo after the Cabinet met.

Tanigaki also said Japan will continue to monitor currency markets and oil prices.
