Draghi dismisses crypto assets

ECB head describes bitcoin as “very, very risky”

The head of the European Central Bank, Mario Draghi, has emphasised the instability of crypto assets and said he believed they were not a currency.

At the ECB Youth Conference on May 9, Draghi said that in future, crypto assets and blockchain will hold “a very small place, if any at all” in the financial market due to their high level of risk.

Draghi was adamant that “cryptocurrencies, bitcoins and such things are not real currencies”. He said: “They are assets. One euro is one euro, today
