CBSL head calls for proactive approach to tackle deepfakes

Governor tells Central Banking of institution’s response when his own image was used by scammers

The governor of Sri Lanka’s central bank, Nandalal Weerasinghe, has said a “more proactive approach” is needed to tackle deepfakes, after an image generated by artificial intelligence last week appeared to show him endorsing an investment scam on Facebook.

Today (March 11) Weerasinghe responded to questions from Central Banking about the video and the efforts the central bank had taken in response.
