Hungary Jarai-wider euro/forint band in 12-18 mos

The Hungarian forint's trading band could be widened in 12 to 18 months, recently appointed central bank governor Zsigmond Jarai told business daily Vilaggazdasag in an interview published Mar 8, 2001.

"We could introduce an exchange rate system similar to ERM II earlier (than 2004), a year or a year and a half from now," Jarai was quoted as saying.

Under the European Monetary System's exchange rate mechanism, the ERM II, the forint would be fixed to the euro but allowed to fluctuate plus/minus 15
