Lagarde acknowledges high inflation pressures

ECB keeps stimulus unchanged and insists inflation will decline during 2022

European Central Bank president Christine Lagarde acknowledged rising inflation at a press conference today (October 28), but stressed it remains a temporary phenomenon.

“Inflation is rising, primarily because of the surge in energy prices but also as the recovery in demand is outpacing constrained supply,” said Lagarde. “We foresee inflation rising further in the near term, but then declining in the course of next year.”
