Colombia signals end to easing cycle
Despite stronger than expected inflation, board cuts interest rates by 25bp to 4.5%
The board of the Central Bank of Colombia has announced the end of its easing cycle, after it voted to reduce interest rates to 4.5% on January 29.
“Some indicators suggest that at this level the monetary policy stance is slightly expansionary. With the information available, the board considers that the reduction cycle of the interest rate has been completed,” the board says in a statement.
Four members voted for the 25bp decrease while three felt the current level was appropriate.
