Eurozone fiscal policy needs to change – DNB governor

Klaas Knot says evidence points to need for aligning monetary and fiscal policy

The president of the Netherlands Bank has called on eurozone countries to back monetary policy with fiscal stimulus.

Klaas Knot made the call in a speech in Washington, DC on October 20, at a meeting of the “group of thirty” senior policy-makers and academics.

In the G30 meeting, “there is mounting evidence that monetary policy can reach its goals faster and with fewer side effects if it is aligned with fiscal policies,” he said. “It would be beneficial if future monetary and fiscal policy
