Eurozone inflation to remain at 1% in August – official data

Below-target inflation may support loosening announcement by ECB on September 12

Inflation in the eurozone is expected to remain stable this month and well below the target of the European Central Bank, the European Union’s official statistical agency, Eurostat, said today (August 30).

Based on an early estimate, inflation will rise year on year by 1% this month, repeating July’s reading. It is well below from the 2.1% recorded in August 2018. The ECB’s target is for annual inflation to be “below, but close to, 2% over the medium term”.
