Issues with monetary policy transmission are obstructing efforts to hit inflation target

The International Monetary Fund says the Bank of Albania must resolve key issues with its monetary policy transmission to bring inflation up to target.

The central bank needs to tackle the high degree of euroisation and resolve structural obstacles to credit growth to improve the effectiveness of its monetary policy, the fund says in its recent Article IV consultation.

The central bank has gradually reduced its policy rate, from 5% in 2011 to 1% in June last year. The bank maintained the rate
