Argentina raises interest rates in pursuit of lower inflation
Despite declining core inflation, higher fuel prices could pose a threat to the central bank’s 2018 target
The Central Bank of Argentina surprised markets on October 24 when its monetary policy committee (MPC) raised interest rates 150 basis points in search of lower inflation.
In a statement, the central bank announced annual inflation had risen to 23.8% in October, a far cry from the 10% plus or minus 2% being targeted for 2018.
