Market reaction hard to predict, Joachim Wuermeling says

It is “hard to predict” how financial markets will react to the European Central Bank tapering its asset purchases, Joachim Wuermeling said on September 18.

The decision on when and how to start tapering asset purchases was solely a matter for the ECB’s governing council, the executive board member of the Deutsche Bundesbank told an audience in Basel.

If the ECB did decide to taper its asset purchases in the autumn, Wuermeling said, this would not be “a restrictive monetary policy tool”. It
