Democratic Republic of Congo moves to stabilise currency following unscheduled MPC meeting

Central bank outlines plans to sell foreign currency and increase reserve requirements

The Central Bank of the Democratic Republic of Congo called an emergency monetary policy committee meeting on February 23, as its currency continued to slide against the dollar.

In a statement released by the bank, the committee noted the national currency had risen above 930 CDF per dollar for the first time. The unofficial rate rose to 955 CDF per dollar, 1.1% higher than the rate in December, the statement added.
