BoE's chief economist says global inflationary pressures prompted rate hike vote

Spencer Dale, the Bank of England's chief economist, on Thursday said global price pressures and fears that persistent above-target inflation may unmoor expectations motivated his vote to hike rates at the last two Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) meetings.

At Central Banking Publications' National Asset-Liability Management Global Conference in London, Dale said: "My vote to raise rates was driven by a concern that – despite a relatively weak outlook for growth – the risks to the inflation
