RBNZ deputy governor calls for move to ‘dual reporting’
“Sometimes unclear” how banks reach their risk weightings, Bascand says
The Reserve Bank of New Zealand is considering changes to how it assesses commercial banks’ risk weightings, its deputy governor said.
“Even for the Reserve Bank, which has access to banks’ modelling documentation and regularly meets with the big-four banks’ modelling teams, it is sometimes unclear how risk-weights have been arrived at,” Geoff Bascand said in a speech in Auckland today (February 28).
