Riksbank urges government to amend profit allocation plans

General Council expresses reservations about parts of government proposals

Sveriges Riksbank has welcomed government proposals to amend the way its profits are distributed, but said certain elements should be amended.

In a consultation response published on May 8, the Riksbank praised the proposed legislation for its “clear and statutory regulations”, which it said would fulfil European Union requirements for maintaining the central bank’s financial independence.

The proposal would require the central bank to disburse profits to the government only when its capital
