The governor and other senior staff from Libya’s central bank have fled the country in fear of their lives, the Financial Times reported today (August 30).

Sadiq al-Kabir and other officials reportedly fled following repeated attempts by armed groups over the past week to break into the Central Bank of Libya (CBL) headquarters in the capital Tripoli.

Whether Kabir should remain in post had become a significant point of contention between the two sets of authorities fighting to control Libya.
