Abdirahman Abdullahi has overseen central bank’s introduction of first national payments system

Abdirahman Mohammed Abdullahi has been appointed to a second four-year term as governor of the Central Bank of Somalia (CBS), Central Banking has been told.

International financial organisations had been worried Somali president Hassan Sheikh Mohamud might replace Abdullahi with an unqualified governor, sources said. But instead, he has invited Abdullahi to serve for another four-year term.

Abdullahi has been governor since July 2019 and has overseen a wide range of reforms. The CBS introduced
