Central Bank of Nigeria governor Godwin Emefiele has met the country’s president after spending several weeks abroad following attempts by a state agency to arrest him.

After the meeting, Emefiele extended the deadline for an unpopular banknote replacement scheme. He said Nigerians would have until February 10, rather than January 31, to hand in old 200, 500, and 1,000 naira notes.

News outlets have reported that many citizens have been unable to replace the old banknotes for newly issued ones
