Liberian government releases four central bank officials

Government official says it is “going after” central bank board despite unclear evidence of alleged theft

Liberia’s authorities have dropped all criminal charges against four former and serving senior central bank officials, but are still prosecuting former governor Milton Weeks, according to local media.

The Central Bank of Liberia’s deputy governor, Charles Sirleaf, son of former president Ellen Sirleaf Johnson, was one of the men released last week after the government withdrew the charges.

But a senior government official alleged before the Freetown court that former governor Weeks had stolen
