South African president defends central bank independence following attacks from his party

South African president Cyril Ramaphosa publicly rejected claims by members of his political party that the government would change the central bank’s mandate.  

On June 4, Ace Magashule, the secretary general of the governing African National Congress, said the ANC had expanded the South African Reserve Bank’s mandate to include economic growth and employment.
