Willingness is not enough to achieve equality – BoE’s Place

COO says she has changed her views on what needs to be done to achieve gender equality

A general willingness to change is not enough to achieve gender equality, the Bank of England’s chief operating officer, Joanna Place, said today (May 15).

In remarks at an event in London, Place said she had not always seen the need for equality targets or recognised the “vital role” that staff networks play.

“I thought that the business case for diversity, coupled with both the moral imperative of treating people fairly, and the willingness of business leaders would inevitably lead to change
