New governor starts work at Belgian central bank
Former vice-governor Pierre Wunsch is backed by centre-right Francophone party
Pierre Wunsch took up the role of the National Bank of Belgium’s governor on January 3, replacing Jan Smets, who retired.
Wunsch joined the NBB in June 2011 as a director sitting on its board, and became its vice-governor in 2015. He has a master’s degree in public and international affairs from Princeton University in the US, and a doctorate in economics from University College London.
