Staff at the Reserve Bank of India have called upon its governor to prevent further government interference when it comes to the central bank's operational mandate.

In a letter published January 13, staff belonging to the United Forum of Reserve Bank Officers and Employees, ask Urjit Patel – as "protector" of the central bank's autonomy – to "urgently" do away with the "unwarranted interference" from the Ministry of Finance, and assure staff who feel "humiliated" accordingly.
