Vítor Constâncio calls for macro-prudential tools to reach beyond banks

Regulators should gain more powers over derivatives transactions, says ECB vice-president

The systemic risk posed by the eurozone's alternative investment funds (AIF) sector is increasing, the vice-president of the European Central Bank (ECB) told an audience in London today (March 21).

Vítor Constâncio called for macro-prudential authorities to be given wider regulatory powers over AIFs. They should also be equipped with tools to supervise derivatives and securities markets and the shadow banking sector, he said.
