UK’s Link implements new fees in bid to halt ATM closures

Subsidy paid by banks to cash machine operators rises to up to £2.75

The operator of the UK’s largest ATM network has announced plans to allow banks to increase the subsidy they pay to machine operators by more than 800%.

From April 1, ATM operators will receive what Link has deemed a “super premium” of up to £2.75 ($3.58) per cash withdrawal. The charge is currently set at 30p.

“The premium will be made available to around 3,500 free-to-use ATMs that are currently 1km or more away from the nearest free-to-use ATM or form part of Link’s Financial Inclusion
