Bank of Finland governor criticises Trump administration’s tariffs and “appeasement” of Russia

The governor of the Bank of Finland has decried US tariffs on imports from the EU, saying “the last thing we need is a trade war between allies” while a war is underway on European soil.

Speaking today (April 2) at a conference in Seville, Olli Rehn said the EU’s preparation of countermeasures was necessary if a solution to the dispute were to be negotiated. He added that “US mercantilism” meant the EU should invest in developing deeper economic relations with the rest of the world.
