World Bank raises its growth forecast for south Asia

Institution projects it to be fastest-growing region among emerging economies

The World Bank has projected that south Asia’s GDP growth this year will hit 6.4%, 0.4 percentage points higher than its estimate in April.

In its South Asia Development Update report, published on October 10, the development finance institution said the region, excluding Afghanistan, would be the fastest growing of all emerging market and developing economy regions.

The World Bank also revised the region’s growth projection for next year to 6.5%, up 0.1pp on its previous estimate. It said the
