Inflation rises in Egypt

Official figures published after central bank held rates in response to previous decline in inflation

Annual headline inflation in Egypt rose to 26.2% in August, up from 25.7% in July, the central bank said today (September 11).

Quoting data from the Central Agency for Public Mobilisation and Statistics, the bank said annual core inflation was 25.1% in August, up from 24.4% in July.

Month-on-month headline inflation also rose to 2.1% in August from 0.4% in July. Monthly core inflation increased to 0.9% from -0.5% over the same period.

The figures comes a week after the Central Bank of Egypt held
