Georgieva says China talks ‘fruitful’ despite limited progress

Restructuring problems are key focus for IMF and World Bank after debt levels hit new high

International Monetary Fund managing director Kristalina Georgieva said there had been a “fruitful exchange” with Chinese authorities in recent talks, even as progress on debt restructuring for poorer nations remains slow.

World Bank president David Malpass and Georgieva visited China last week to discuss restructuring Chinese loans to emerging market countries, among other issues.

“We talked about how we can prevent individual cases of debt distress from triggering a global debt crisis,”
