Better regulation greatly reduces costs of financing after some natural disasters, researchers find

Stricter macro-prudential regulation can improve the financial response to natural disasters, especially in middle-income countries, a working paper published by the Banque de France finds.

In Natural disasters and financial stress: can macro-prudential regulation tame green swans? Pauline Avril, Grégory Levieuge and Camelia Turcu present data on 88 countries. The authors attempt to calculate the financial impact of natural disasters in these countries between 1996 and 2016.
