IMF staff agree outline of deal with Argentina

Argentina accepts need for policy framework leading to positive interest rates, IMF says

The International Monetary Fund announced today (January 28) that it had reached a staff-level agreement with Argentina for a new aid programme.

The deal would succeed a failed 2018 programme that ultimately amounted to $57 billion, the largest the IMF has ever disbursed. That loan was cancelled in 2020 after a change of government. 

The IMF said the two sides had reached an understanding on key policies”, including a monetary policy framework aiming to “deliver positive real interest rates”
