BIS research maps out links between banks and non-banks

First attempt at global mapping reveals significant scale of interconnections

Interconnected

Cross-border links between banks and non-banks are large and growing, a new mapping exercise published by the Bank for International Settlements shows.

Iñaki Aldasoro, Wenqian Huang and Esti Kemp draw on recent enhancements to the BIS’s international banking statistics to create a map of exposures. Among various charts, the quarterly review article includes an interactive graphic revealing cross-border claims on different countries.
