China will suffer recession, say Bank of Finland experts

Economic policy response has been fragmented and banks may not respond to PBoC incentives – research

China will suffer a recession in 2020, Bank of Finland researchers predicted, warning that authorities have managed only a “fragmented” economic response to the crisis.

The researchers say China’s economy was slowing even before the coronavirus outbreak, and has only a limited potential to be revived by stimulus. China’s GDP in the first quarter of this year “will be much lower than a year ago”, says the Bank of Finland’s latest growth forecast for China.
