ECB appoints administrators to run Italian bank Carige

Resolution of troubled bank may face political difficulties

The European Central Bank appointed temporary administrators to take charge of an Italian commercial bank, Banca Carige, it said in a statement issued today (January 2).

The ECB said it had appointed three administrators as well as a three-member surveillance committee to run the bank and replace Banca Carige’s board of directors. A majority of the bank’s board had resigned earlier on January 2, the ECB said. The statement from the ECB added it had removed Banca Carige’s own management and
