IMF chief economist warns against ‘complacency’

Recent economic upturn should not be viewed as “new normal”, Obstfeld says

The chief economist at the International Monetary Fund has warned policymakers that present economic momentum should not be viewed as the “new normal”, urging them to be wary of “complacency”.

“While the current conjuncture might appear to be a sweet spot for the global economy, prudent policymakers must look beyond the near term,” Maurice Obstfeld writes in his latest blog post.
