IMF’s Lipton says global growth is not ‘strong enough’

Deputy director says some emerging markets risk getting left behind

The deputy managing director of the International Monetary Fund has said the global recovery is currently “simply not strong enough” given the gap between some advanced economies and emerging markets.

“Many countries have not yet taken the policy steps needed to return to growth,” David Lipton said in Munich on October 23.

The deputy director recognised the global recovery was strengthening, with advanced economies in Europe and Asia now growing. “We haven’t seen that since the crisis,” Lipton
