Sarb’s Kahn: current conditions ‘do not bode well’ for economy

Kganyago’s adviser says political uncertainty is likely to continue throughout 2017

The adviser to the governor of the South African Reserve Bank (Sarb) has painted a gloomy picture for the future of the economy for an audience of investors.

Speaking in Johannesburg on June 8, Brian Kahn said the country had entered a recession following a number of economic shocks that occurred during the first half of 2017.

“We are likely to have an increasingly noisy political backdrop for the remainder of the year,” Kahn said.
